Programme for BEES Seminar 2009 (pdf)
BEES hosted a special seminar on Tuesday 17th November 2009 at BAD Headquarters in London on the topic of ‘How should UK dermatology services be configured?’ The meeting was co-hosted by the Dowling Club, with kind support from Robin Graham-Brown as the President and Rosie Davis as the Secretary.
The topic was chosen because Julia Schofield has done a remarkable piece of work on updating the UK Dermatology Healthcare Needs Assessment. Julia gathered essential data on the prevalence of skin diseases in the community, consultation rates, and evidence of various treatment and service organisation issues. The report is available completely free in the public domain from the Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology website www.nottingham.ac.uk/scs/divisions/evidencebaseddermatology/index.aspx and following the link to ‘Health Care Needs Assessment’. In addition to giving a short overview of the report, a number of esteemed speakers gave their perspective on dermatology health care services in the UK. This included Martin McShane (healthcare commissioner), Rosemary Humphreys (patient/public view point), Rebecca Penzer (dermatology nurse specialist), Amanda Platts (general practitioner), and Christina Green (to give the clinical dermatologist perspective). Rod Hay also gave the perspective on the global burden of diseases project for the World Health Organisation which has close links with our needs assessment.
Commentaries from some of the speakers can be found at:
