Getting to Grips with Evidence Based Dermatology 2009When: Wednesday 3rd – Friday 5th February 2010 (provisional date) This popular course is now in its fourteenth year. The aims of the course are to a) improve your skills at critical appraisal when reading dermatological literature and b) improve your ability to design and participate in clinical research projects. The course uses the principles of epidemiology and statistics such as chance, bias and confounding to provide a framework to achieve these aims. The main taught elements of dermato-epidemiology and statistics are part of the UK specialist trainee curriculum (see the BAD website). The course may also appeal to consultants who wish to improve their skills at critically appraising published clinical trials and also statistics in general. Overseas dermatology trainees are always welcome. The course is taught by Professor Hywel Williams in collaboration with epidemiologists and statisticians from the Trent Research Development Support Unit at Nottingham. Dermatological examples are used to illustrate concepts throughout the course. It is a 3 day course which is hard work, but good fun. The course costs £350, and there is a maximum of 24 places in order to ensure that groups are kept to a sensible size. Full Royal College of Physicians CPD approval. Up to two bursaries for colleagues training at the Regional Dermatology Centre in Tanzania are usually available to attend this course.
